Sandy Depolito
Sandy's Story
In 2018 the Plunge was for my long-time friend Sandy Depolito. In 2017, Sandy had some issues with her right foot. A bit of swelling that wouldn’t go away. Maybe a piece of glass or something was in her foot she thought. Off to a Health Stop to fix the problem. In a horrible turn of events, doctors told Sandy that she was suffering from Necrotizing fasciitis. Otherwise known as flesh-eating disease. Sandy didn’t have time to process the news. An amputation had to be done. Five days later she was having the operation. To make matters worse, they did not get it all. A second amputation was necessary. Through it all, Sandy remained so strong. An unbelievable role model for her two beautiful daughters, Haley and Samantha.
We Plunged in 2018 for her with the money going towards an indoor chair lift. A necessity for certain, but Sandy’s passion is the water. With the prosthetic leg that she had, it was terribly hard for her to spend time in the water. So we Plunged for her a second time and those funds went to a Water Leg that Sandy named “Blue.” It has been a saving Grace for her as it has worked beautifully. We would do anything for this woman. An inspiration to us all.

I bought these booties right before I lost my leg, and this is first time I have been able to wear them. A big Thank You to the McMahons and the Keefe Polar Plunge for putting me back in heels! ❤️

One of the many needed items that the plunge was able to provide. A water leg so Sandy can swim one of her favorite things to do!
